Medicine Wheel

Interpretive presentations are given by descendants of the Crow and Cheyenne tribes of Wyoming.

The Medicine Wheel, named by white men who discovered it at the end of the 1800s, is located near the Bighorn River and east of Lovell and the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area. There are said to be as many as forty other wheels in the high plains of the Rocky Mountains, particularly in Canada. The Wheel is said to serve as a type of landmark to identify the sunrise of the summer solstice.

You can access the Medicine Wheel throughout the summer by the Bighorn Scenic Byway, US Hwy 14. Bighorn Scenic Byway contains many attractions, formations and landmarks near the Wheel, including Shell Falls and the Medicine Lodge State Archaeological Site.
