Fayette is in Delta County, and in the Northern Region. You can find Fayette located east of Escanaba along Highway 183 near Big Bay De Noc and Lake Michigan.
Named after Fayette Brown, the Jackson Iron Company agent who chose the site, Fayette was once one of the Upper Peninsula's most productive iron-smelting operations. That all came to a halt when there was a lack of hardwood to fuel the towns blast furnaces for smelting iron. This forced their closing in 1892 and Fayette became a "ghost town".
