Belton is located in Anderson County along Highway 178. This is a community east of Anderson and south of Greenville in the northwest corner of South Carolina.
There is also a Belton, Texas.
Belton is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson metro area.
The area that was to become Belton was granted to three Revolutionary soldiers. From 1785 until the mid-1840s, the area developed a rural agrarian economy.
The local economy developed around its main agricultural crop, cotton. Other manufacturing industries have been attracted to the city and have contributed to the growth of the city.
Recreation facilities in Belton consist of ten lighted tennis courts, four publicly owned baseball fields, and playgrounds. Three golf courses are located near the city. Nearby lakes provide areas for fishing, camping, boating, skiing, swimming, and picnicking.
