Chickaloon is located in
Matanuska-Susitna Borough northeast of
Anchorage between
Sutton &
Glennallen along Highway 1 on the banks of the Matanuska River.
The Chickaloon River Rd branches off the highway at the Chickaloon River bridge. The road provides access to Chickaloon B & B Cottage and the Matanuska Valley Moose Range.
The village was named for the Chickaloon River, after Chief Chiklu. It was established in 1916 in the coal-rich Matanuska region.
