Girdwood, originally named Glacier City, is located forty miles south of Anchorage, among the breathtaking Turnagain Arm. The Alyeska Resort Access Rd is a three mile paved spur off the Seward Hwy.

Girdwood has evolved from a mining town into Alaska's only year-round resort community! Girdwood is a popular area for winter sports and summer activities.

There is a ranger district office for the Chugach National Forest in Girdwood, with maps and information available year round.

Girdwood is part of the Anchorage, Alaska metro area.
