Established in 1890 as Arkadelphia Methodist College, Henderson is one of only two Arkansas public universities established as a 4-yr degree conferring institution and the second oldest under state control. The university's current enrollment is at 3500 students. Degree programs are offered through the Matt Locke Ellis College of Arts & Sciences, colleges of business and education, graduate school and honors college, as well as operating the only aviation degree program in the state. A graduate program was instituted in 1955 which confers three graduate degrees. The university also offers an athletics program. The university's main entrance and fountain are located on Hwy 7.
