Sooke Region Museum is located 40 minutes from downtown Victoria. The museum is open daily throughout the summer, however it is closed on Mondays and some public holidays during the rest of the year. The main building contains many exhibits, video productions, gift shop, visitor information centre, and art gallery. A special displays and artifacts will find outside on the Museum grounds. These include a working steam engine, a nature trail, historic buildings, a ship wreck display industrial artifacts, and forestry exhibits. The gift shop offers local craftwork, native crafts and a selection of books. The Museum's annual open house and salmon barbecue held the fourth Sunday each June, attracts visitors from far and near. Special group tours for all ages are arranged.
