This is the 7th largest of the 23 campus California State University system, enrolling more than 23,000 students while maintaining a commitment to small classes. CSUS students enjoy extensive research and intership opportunities in
Sacramento, the heart of California government and one of the fastest growing regions in the country.
The University was founded as Sacramento State College in 1947, during a time of unprecedented demand for higher education after World War II. The campus moved to its permanent location on the banks of the historic American River in 1953. In 1972 it was renamed.
Today the 300 acre campus is sheltered by more than 3,00 trees and dotted with flower gardens. It has more than 2.5 million square feet of building space. Miles of trails stretch along its river parkway, leading to on and off campus student housing.
Tours can be arranged through the admissions office.
