The park overlooks the Petaluma River and San Pablo Bay from the eastern slopes of 1,558 Mount Burdell. Several historic buildings are preserved within the park. Visitors may also use the hiking and horse trails as well as shaded picnic area.
The Coast Miwok are believed to have inhabited at least one site within the area of the present-day park continuously from as early as 6,000 B.C. up until the early 1850s. The park contains "kitchen rock," a large boulder used as a mortar in which early people ground acorns and seeds into fine flour for food preparation. There is a project underway to build several structures to represent a Coast Miwok village.
The park is located 3 miles north of Novato on Hwy 101. The park entrance is accessible only to southbound traffic from Hwy 101. Open for day use only.
