National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial

Search Washington DC

The Memorial honors more than 16,500 law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, dating back to the first law enforcement death in 1792. The names are inscribed on marble walls, and a directory helps locate the names of the fallen. Set within a three acre park, the Memorial walls encircle the serene, landscaped garden and reflecting pool. At the end of each wall a bronze lion and lioness guard their cubs, symbolizing the protective role of law enforcement. The Visitors Center (605 E St.) features exhibits, photographs, and video clips related to law enforcement. Visitors may purchase books, videos, posters, patches, and other commemorative items at the gift shop.
