Merchant Adventurer's Hall

Search York

This is the finest example of a medieval guildhall in Europe, built 1357-62, it remains substantially unaltered. Merchants transacted their business on the first-floor timbered Great Hall, just as today; the hospice, where the poor were cared for, and a private chapel are located on the ground floor. Displays include historic collections of paintings, furniture, silver and other objects used over the centuries. Pre-booked groups only; conference facilities. Open all year, except Christmas and New Year. Tourist Info: +44 (0)1904 621 756, Tel: +44 (0)1904 654 818, Fax: +44 (0)1904 654 818
