Harewood House, magnificent Yorkshire home of the Earl and Countess of Harewood, was designed by John Carr and completed in 1772 with exquisite interiors by Robert Adam. Collections include English 18th-century and Italian Renaissance masterpieces, Chippendale furniture, fine porcelain, Royal photographs and memorabilia mostly dating from 1930-1965, when Lord Harewood's mother HRH the Princess Mary, the Princess Royal, lived at Harewood. In the grounds are lakeside and woodland walks, collection of rhododendron (April-June) and parterre Terrace with box scrolls and seasonal bedding. Harewood Bird Garden has one of the most comprehensive collections of rare and exotic species in the country. Special events include open air concerts and regularly changing exhibitions in the Watercolour Rooms and Terrace Art Gallery; 'Behind the Scenes' visits to the Old Kitchen for groups.
