The museum is situated within a reconstruction of a Second Seminole Indian-era fort; construction on the original was begun on December 25, 1837 (from which it derived the name of Fort Christmas). Picnic and recreation facilities are also located on the grounds. Open Tuesday-Sunday; fort buildings are closed on holidays.
