City Map with Features
This site is a memorial to a way of life and economic system that existed prior to the Civil War, never to be seen again in our country's history. The Gamble Mansion represents the only existing antebellum plantation house in southern Florida; it once served as the headquarters of an extensive sugar plantation, covering more than 3,500 acres. The United Daughters of the Confederacy secured the mansion, with 16 acres of its grounds, in 1925 as a donation to the State. Costumed guides host public tours of the mansion Mondays-Thursdays; a visitor center and picnic area are also open until sunset. Twice yearly, the Florida Park Service and The United Daughters of the Confederacy sponsor a public Open House event at the historic mansion. Located in Ellenton on Hwy 301 East.
