One of the jewels of the Salmon National Forest, the
Salmon River, attracts river enthusiasts from throughout the nation. The Main Salmon and the Middle Fork of the Salmon are both well-known white water streams. Other popular activities to pursue here include hiking, horseback riding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and alpine skiing at Lost Trail Ski Area. The forest contains a large segment of the 2.36 million acre Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness.
