John A. Logan College is located in Carterville, IL, just northeast of
Carbondale in
Williamson County. Just minutes north of the
Shawnee National Forest and
Crab Orchard Lake & NWR, the college is surrounded by natural beauty and is in close proximity to
Marion and I-57.
The community college is named for the famed Civil War general and U.S. Senator (1826-86) who spent the better part of his early years in this area. He is also the founder of Memorial Day.
The College was created in 1967 and gained permanent facilities two years later. As is typical of Illinois' community college system, students can opt for University transfer courses, enter a techical field or complete a job-ready Associates Degree program.
