The Mt. Pulaski Courthouse Historical Site is located, as the title indicates, in the small central Illinois ( Logan County) town on the city square. It is one of only two surviving Eighth Judicial Circuit courthouses in Illinois where Abraham Lincoln practiced. The Greek Revival-style courthouse hosted the semi-annual circuit court business from 1848 to 1855 when the county seat was moved to Lincoln. The 2-story structure provided office space for the circuit clerk, county clerk, school commissioner, sheriff, surveyor and treasurer. Court was held on the 2nd floor. The building was converted for use as a schoolhouse for about 20 years and subsequently has housed the town jail, post office and general town meeting gathering place. It was deeded to the state in 1936 for refurbishment and preservation.
