Sumner is located in southern Illinois in
Lawrence County about 10 miles west of
Lawrenceville, the county seat, and 20 miles west of the
Wabash River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 968, a decrease of 115 since 1990.
The town is only a few minutes southwest of 950-acre Red Hills State Park.
