Kentucky Military History Museum |
Located on the corner of Main Street and Capitol Avenue, this museum displays uniforms, medals, flags and weapons, including a collection of automatic arms and Kentucky rifles. Exhibits trace the state's involvement in military conflicts through two centuries. A new exhibit area for personal artifacts and mementoes left behind at the nearby Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial is currently under construction.
The museum is housed in the circa 1850 Gothic Revival-style Old State Arsenal building, which formerly held the weapons and equipment of the Kentucky Militia. Group tours are available; groups of 10 or more must make arrangements in advance. The museum is closed on weekends, except by appointment for larger groups, Mondays and most holidays.
