Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill

This is considered to be America's largest restored Shaker community of its kind; listed as a National Historic Landmark, the site preserves and interprets 33 original buildings and 2,800 acres of farmland. Visitors can access a number of activities at this living museum, including self-guided tours, sternwheeler riverboat excursions, and craft and farming demonstrations. Hiking and horseback riding the Shaker Village trails reveal old mill remains, bridge sites, wildlife, and over 25 miles of rock fences; the 100-acre Chinn-Poe Nature Preserve, part of the Shaker Village property, borders the Kentucky River.

An extensive collection of 19th-century original Shaker furniture and household items are displayed at the Centre Family Dwelling, and a Shaker Life Exhibit in the East Family Dwelling features changing exhibits, video viewing area, and a hands-on room. Shaker music is offered four times a day at the circa 1820 Meeting House. Lodging and dining are also available. Open daily.
