Louisiana State Arboretum |
Located adjacent to Chicot State Park, the 300+-acre site is beautiful, inspirational and peaceful. Its topography is varied and dramatic with the landscaping ranging from nearly flat to slopes of over 30% Almost every type of native Louisiana vegetation, except coastal marsh and prairie, is represented.
The arboretum is designed primarily for eductional use; however, it is an ideal setting for quiet recreation. For the most enthusiastic naturalist or first-time visitor, it is a delightful and enchanting area in which to discover the beauty of nature. There is an interpretive shelter with educational exhibits, a fine outdoor classroom and a system of foot bridges that lead through a network of hills, ravines and creeks.
Restrooms and water fountains are also available. Group tours can be scheduled and interpretive programs are offered on a regular basis. Self guided tours are made easier by the well-marked trails.
