Pershing State Park was established in honor of Gen. John J. Pershing. The 3,143-acre park is a superb example of a pre-European-settlement landscape of northern Missouri. Locust Creek, which runs through the park, is one of the last sizeable streams in northern Missouri that has not been channelized. Along the creek, visitors will find richly forested bottomlands, shrub swamps, marshes and a 1,000-acre wet prairie. A 1.5 mile interpretive boardwalk allows access to the wetland area. A shady campground, archery range, swimming area and four small lakes for fishing are available.
