Long Lake covers parts of Burleigh County and Kidder County in south central North Dakota and is one of the states larger lakes at about 20 miles long. Located 30 miles southeast of Bismarck, the lake is an important stop for migrating waterfowl as well as local bird populations.
The alkaline lake varies in width from 1/2 mile to 2 miles and is the focal point of 22,000-acre Long Lake National Wildlife Refuge. The Refuge was listed as a top-10 birding site by Wildbird Magazine.
