Sentinel Butte is located in West Region in Golden Valley County (of which it is the county seat) in the heart of the Little Missouri National Grassland area along I-94 about 60 miles west of Dickinson.Nearby recreational pursuits include trips to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park (south unit) 15 miles to the east and Sully's Creek State Park about 5 miles south of that. For history buffs, the De Mores Historic Site is located just southwest of Medora in the same general area.
