Montour Falls is located in
Schuyler County 18 miles north of
Elmira between
Watkins Glen and Odessa along Highway 14 on the banks of the Cayuta River in the
Western Region of the state.
Montour Falls occupies the site of Catharines Town, a village ruled by and named for Queen Catharine Montour of the Iroquois Nation. A score of waterfalls flow through the seven glens that surround the town.
Havana Glen has hiking trails past numerous waterfalls, pools and cascades as well as camping facilities. Picnicking is permitted. Chequa-gua Falls, 156 feet high, is at the head of Main street; the falls are illuminated at night. Seneca Lakeis immediately north of the village; a marina is open daily in summer.
