Union County

Union county, formed on April Fool's Day in 1820, is located in central Ohio just northwest of Columbus and utilizes Marysville as its county seat. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 40,776, an increase of 8,807 over the 1990 census.

Just minutes away from a major metropolitan center, Union county is a largely rural county with agriculture and protein production its major income producers. Only the Big and Little Darby Creeks, in the southeast corner of the county, provide surface irrigation and/or fishing and canoeing opportunities.

In the "Believe it or not catagory"--In the 1880's and 1890's, when water cures were in vogue, Union county’s Magnetic Springs was a busy place. The mineral waters here had a magnetic quality that charged a knife blade with enough power to pick up a pound of nails.
