Deep Fork National Wildlife Refuge

Deep Fork NWR is located east of Oklahoma City near Okmulgee in Okmulgee County just off U.S Highway 75.The 6,800-acre Refuge was established in 1993 and, due to annual flooding, provides excellent habitat for waterfowl including blue-winged teal, mallard, pintail, shoveler, and wood ducks. Several tree species can be found here including black walnut, bur oak, dogwood, pin oak, redbud, shumard oak and southern red oak in the lower areas with blackjack oak and post oak a little higher up. Game and non-game animals include beaver, bobcat, cottontail, coyote, fox squirrel, gray squirrel, swamp rabbit and white-tailed deer in the mammal category. Reptiles include the cottonmouth snake, pygmy rattlesnake and several species of non-venomous snakes. The amphibian population counts the bullfrog, chorus frog, cricket frog, green frog and southern leopard frog among their numbers. Bow and black powder deer hunting as well as squirrel and rabbit hunting are allowed in season.
