Great Salt Plains State Park is located in northwestern Oklahoma in
Alfalfa County east of
Cherokee (the county seat) and the
Great Salt Plains Nat'l Wildlife Refuge.
Luring visitors from all over, the salt flats are literally a sea of salt--and one of Oklahoma's most fascinating geological phenomenons. The park boasts the only spot in the world where people can dig for hourglass selenite crystals.
The 840-acre park features 8,700-acre Great Salt Plains Lake, six cabins, three camping areas, 173 camp sites and a community building.
