It was named after "Alfalfa" Bill Murray, who was the President of the Constitutional Convention during the statehood's formation and later became Governor of Oklahoma. Nearby Great Salt Plains State Park, Great Salt Plains Lake, Great Salt Plains Nat'l Wildlife Refuge and the Arkansas River provide a multitude of recreational opportunities including boating, fishing, camping, swimming and hunting.
