Alfalfa County |
Alfalfa county, formed from part of old Woods county, is located in north central Oklahoma on the Kansas border and calls Cherokee its county seat. It was named after "Alfalfa" Bill Murray, who was the President of the Constitutional Convention during the statehood's formation and later became Governor of Oklahoma.
Nearby Great Salt Plains State Park, Great Salt Plains Lake, Great Salt Plains Nat'l Wildlife Refuge and the Arkansas River provide a multitude of recreational opportunities including boating, fishing, camping, swimming and hunting.
Higher education can be obtained at Northwestern Oklahoma State University just a few minutes west in Alva in Woods County.
