Cape Meares, 10 miles west of Tillamook, is at the north end of the beautiful 20-mile Three Capes Scenic Loop. Located on the cape is Cape Meares State Scenic Viewpoint, a day use area with interesting viewpoints, interpretive panels, four miles of trails, several natural attractions, and an historic 1890s lighthouse.A popular attraction at the park is the unusually large Sitka spruce known as the Octopus Tree, with a diameter of more than 10 feet at its base. The boundaries of Cape Meares State Park also encompass the 138-acre Cape Meares National Wildlife Refuge. Cape Meares is an excellent location for spring and winter whale watching.
