Swisshome, located 8 miles northeast of
Mapleton in
Lane County, is situated within the
Siuslaw National Forest along
Highway 36 and the
Siuslaw River.
The name Swisshome originated in 1902 because of a Swiss family who lived where The Old Murphy Mill is located today. The Heinrich Zweidler Family established the Post Office, where Mr. Zweidler was Postmaster. Before the town became Swisshome it was known as Norwood.
Swisshome has a population of 399, an Elevation is 419 feet above sea level, and is situated 22 miles from Florence.
