Umpqua National Forest

The nearly one million square acres of the Umpqua National Forest, in the Cascade Mountains, are primarily in Douglas County, with a small extent into Lane County and Jackson County on the north and south, respectively.

Recreation possibilities include famed sites like nearby Crater Lake National Park, Diamond Lake, and the Wild and Scenic North Umpqua River, to quiet and lesser known sites like Yasko Falls and Skookum Lake.

Highway 138, (Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway and Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway), provides access through the forest and is part of the National Scenic Byway System.

Over 390 miles of maintained hiking trails are complemented with cross-country skiing and snowmobiling trails to a total of more than 600 miles. A very popular trail is the 79-mile-long North Umpqua Trail.
