Celia Mann bought her own freedom from slavery in
Charleston, walked to
Columbia, and made a remarkable life for herself in this white frame cottage of which she was the original owner. Built in the early 1800s, it is now a historical heritage house museum.
Manns-Simons Cottage is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10:15 a.m. until 3:15 p.m., and Sunday from 1:15 p.m. until 4:15 p.m. Admission tickets are sold at the Robert Mills House gift shop, 1616 Blanding Street.
