State House |
Charles C. Wilson of Columbia, who was the last architect of the State House, proclaimed South Carolina's State House "one of the most notable buildings of the world."
Records show that the assembly of the State House is appropriated at least $3,540,000 for its construction over the years. Pocked by Sherman's cannonballs, circa 1855, the building has bronze stars on the wounds in its western wall. The State House has been newly renovated and is home of the General Assembly as well as the governor's office. Visits to the State House are free to the public.
