Old Fort Parker State Historical Park

Search Groesbeck Texas

The park, situated between Groesbeck and Mexia in Limestone County, is at the site where Cynthia Ann Parker (who became the mother of Quanah Parker) was abducted by Comanche Indians in 1836. The original construction at the park was done by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The reconstructed fort pays tribute to the Parker family and other pioneers who paid a high price to settle in Texas.

Activities at the park include historical study and picnicking. Visitors can explore cabins, climb the blockhouse, and recapture the atmosphere of that fateful day in 1836.
