Because Nevada is the fastest growing state in the country, the population faces many health issues (as do many other states), which are expanding beyond the capability of local resources to address them. That is why health education in Nevada has become a workable factor in providing adequate health safety. The Nevada Public Health Foundation has played a crucial role in Nevada's health issues. NPHF is a nonprofit organization offering services statewide to enhance the health and improve the quality of life of Nevada's population. NPHF offers resources that contribute to public health policy making, education to public health professionals and assistance to citizens in wellness and health maintenance. With twelve medical facilities, Las Vegas has the largest selection of major health care establishments in the state. One of the premier medical facilities in Las Vegas is Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. SHMC is equipped and ready for all critical trauma situations (even even receiving patients from other hospitals). Their staff is extremely experienced, providing cutting-edge technology for all situations. Sunrise's Renal Transplant Center and Sleep Disorder Center are the only ones of their kind in southern Nevada. Also in Las Vegas is Valley Hospital Medical Center. Their skilled doctors offer the state's most advanced cardiology procedures, including open-heart surgery and electrophysiology studies, as well as an array of women's services. In western Nevada, the state capital, Carson City, provides excellent health care at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. In 1997, Carson-Tahoe Hospital established a Women and Children's Center an expanded Carson Rehabilitation Center, the additions of Filmless Imaging and Nuclear Medicine, and a renovated and improved Surgical Unit and Emergency Room. Reno has three major medical centers to choose from. Western Nevada's Washoe Medical Center provides Reno with a top-of-the-line trauma center for adult and pediatric needs. Reno's West Hills Hospital and St Marys Regional Medical Center both provide 24 hour emergency services. The primary hospital system in Nevada's "cowboy country" is Humbolt General Hospital. Located in Winnemucca, Humbolt General has been in service since 1908. Serving as the medical gateway to Northern Nevada, Humbolt General Hospital is staffed by over 120 professionals providing service for both major and minor medical needs. |
