Nevada's Educational Institutions furnish a wide variety of learning facilities. Grade levels kindergarten through twelve are mainly supported by public and private schools, as well as charter schools that are privately run with public money. Nevada's secondary schools include public community colleges and universities, along with private colleges and various technical training schools.

Nevada has 17 school districts, one for each of the state's counties. Statewide there are more than 500 public schools, totaling an ever increasing student population of 340,702. Charter schools in the "Silver State" include public elementary, middle and/or secondary schools that are independent schools of choice, operating under a contract issued and funded by the public school system. The Catholic Church provides various learning facilities in Nevada. Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas and Bishop Manogue Catholic High School in Reno are known for success in sports and academics.

By far, the Southern Region of Nevada offers the largest selection of higher education in the state. Las Vegas College offers two campus locations, Henderson and of course Las Vegas. Both campus locations provide students with many Associate Degree options, as well as four year degrees. The Community College of Southern Nevada also has a campus in Henderson and another on West Charleston (6 miles west of downtown Las Vegas). Each of these two community college campuses provide well equipped, modern classrooms, computer labs and science laboratories to CCSN students taking general education classes for completion of degree and certificate programs.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas enrolls more than 24,000 students. UNLV's academic and athletic (Division I) facilities are some of the finest in the Nation. The Desert Research Institute is also positioned in Las Vegas. DRI is the nonprofit research campus of the University and Community College System of Nevada (UCCSN) and is involved in two graduate programs, both in cooperation with the University of Nevada, Reno. Approximately 400 research faculty and support staff conduct more than $30 million in environmental research each year.

The Western Region of Nevada is equipped with various college locations. The city of Reno provides students with Truckee Meadows Community College, Morrison University and the University of Nevada, Reno. The University of Nevada, Reno has an enrollment of about 14,000 students, with housing for 1,158 on-site residents. Remarkable programs include Animal Biotechnology, Hydrologic Sciences, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, and more.

The state capital of Nevada, Carson City, offers excellent secondary educational opportunities at Western Nevada Community College. WNCC offers various Associate Degrees, with 54 programs available ranging from Fine Arts to Applied Science.

Sierra Nevada College is situated just south of Reno, within the town of Incline Village. SNC is nestled in the Sierra high country, two miles from "The Lake of the Sky," Lake Tahoe. Sierra Nevada College is one of the most prominent private colleges in Nevada. Their Liberal Arts Program allows students to explore many creative venues while absorbing the tranquil beauty of snow covered peaks, topped with Ponderosa pines.

The Northern Region of Nevada provides students with two main secondary learning centers, Great Basin College and Northern Nevada Community College. Both colleges are situated in "Cowboy Country", near the banks of the Humboldt River in Elko. Northern Nevada Community College offers various degrees and many other career enhancing programs. Great Basin College has 4,700 students who study throughout the academic school year. Great Basin's courses range from mathematics and science to fine arts and social science. The College also offers Associate of Arts, Associate of Science and Associate of Applied Science degrees as well as the Bachelor of Integrative and Professional Studies, Bachelor of Applied Science (Management Technology or Instrumentation) and Bachelor of Arts - Elementary Education.
