Reno and Las Vegas, present the highest concentration of lodging in the state. Reno, situated in the western region, provides a large selection of accommodations. Circus Circus Hotel and Casino is one of the most popular places to stay for the whole family. The Silver Lagacy Resort Casino supplies guests with top-of-the-line accommodations near all of the action. Las Vegas, the "entertainment capital of the world", is positioned in the southern region of Nevada. The stimulus is virtually non stop, with plenty of neon lights, massive resorts and themed casinos. On the famed Las Vegas Strip, visitors can view a spirited pirate ship battle, an exploding volcano, or a spectacular laser light water show. Visit hotel-resorts that capture the essence of ancient Egypt, an Arthurian kingdom, Rome, Venice, New York, Monte Carlo, Paris and a host of various tropical paradises. While staying at one of the many eccentric locations along the Las Vegas strip, you can enjoy the excitement of 24-hour gaming, gourmet restaurants operated by the world's most famous chefs and star studded entertainment. The Luxor is a deluxe, pyramid-shaped hotel and casino complex, located 1 mile from McCarran International Airport in the heart of Las Vegas. The hotel boasts ten wonderful restaurants and a casino that is 100,000 square feet on 47-acres of land, next to Excalibur. The MGM Grand Hotel Casino, also situated in the heart of Vegas, is a virtual "City of Entertainment" unto itself. Built on a huge scale that few resort casinos in Las Vegas can match, the MGM offers Studio 54, Grand Spa, Grand Pool Complex, Lion Habitat, La Femme and the Grand Garden Arena. At the extreme southern tip of Nevada on the Colorado River is the community of Laughlin. In 1966, Laughlin consisted of a small motel and restaurant that catered to local fishermen. While the fishing remains great, Laughlin has been transformed into a lively resort town of world-class hotels offering big-name entertainment and first-class accommodations. For those who are looking for a slower pace, Nevada's guest ranches are perfect for a quiet and "old west" feel to your stay. The Tent Mountain Guest Ranch is located in beautiful Starr Valley. The ranch offers hunting, fishing, camping and horseback riding. The lodge features three private rooms with queen beds. Nestled in the heart of Seven Mile Canyon, one mile north of the beautiful and historic Virginia City, lies the Tyson's Canyon Ranch. Another popular guest ranch is the Cottonwood Ranch, a working horse and cattle ranch located in the remote northeastern corner of Nevada. Camping in Nevada provides many recreational opportunities for all to enjoy. The Wild Horse State Recreation Area covers 120 acres on the northeast shore of Wild Horse Reservoir, and is located 67 miles north of Elko on Route 225. Park facilities include campgrounds, trails, showers, trailer dump station, boat launch and ranger station. Near the town of Overton, the Valley of Fire State Park offers a full-scale visitor center with many campsites. The valley derives its name from the red sandstone formations and the desolate beauty of the Mojave Desert. The Spring Valley State Park is another popular campground, which is a water-oriented recreational site along the banks of the 59-acre Eagle Valley Reservoir. A developed trail connects the Stone Cabin and Ranch Campground. Lake Mead and Lake Mohave to the south are part of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, which is operated by the National Park Service. The recreation area offers five developed beaches and marinas, campgrounds and other services. Cabins and cottages are both affordable and spacious options for visitors to enjoy. Mount Charleston Lodge, near Las Vegas, is perched atop a mountain overlooking Kyle Canyon, at an elevation of 7,717 feet above sea level. Accommodations provide guests with personal log cabins, each with a two person whirlpool, fireplace, king size beds, living room and private deck. Their kitchen is open twenty four hours a day. Cabins are also tucked away along the Nevada/California border at Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park. |
