Completed in 1735, it is the only church from colonial Virginia to retain its original, highbacked pews, and it is one of only two with its original, triple-decker pulpit. The quality and detail of its exterior brickwork add to the charm of this unique structure. The church is open daily, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, except Christmas, New Year's Day, and Thanksgiving. The Carter Museum and Reception Center contains exhibitions on the church and Robert "King" Carter, its patron, and offers guided tours. It is open April - November; call for hours of operation.
