Situated at the junction of the Ohio and Kanawha rivers. The battle fought at this site between General Andrew Lewis and about 1,100 Virginia frontiersmen and Shawnee chief Cornstalk and a like number of American Indians of the federated western tribes, is said to have been the opening engagement of the American Revolution. An 84-foot-high granite shaft commemorates the battle. At its base is a statue of a typical Virginia woodsman of the period. South of the monument is the grave of 'Mad Anne' Bailey, pioneer woman soldier and border scout. Park open Monday-Saturday 10am-4:30pm, Sunday 1-4:30pm. Free to the public.
