This pool is located in
Saratoga and is open all day, every day, all year. The therapeutic mineral waters are of the
North Platte River. The native Indians believed that the pools had healing effects, so when a smallpox epidemic broke out in 1874, they immersed the sick in the water for however long they thought the water would boil the disease out, and then rinsed them in the river. Since almost every Indian died after this treatment, the Indians viewed the pools as bad medicine and moved farther and farther away from the springs. The water, however, is still deemed beneficial for those suffering from rheumatism, eczema, kidney disease, paralysis and other illnesses. The water ranges from 117 to 128 degrees F, and the site is maintained by the town.
