Fremont County is in central WY. It contains, within its boundaries, many cities and national land areas.
Riverton, Shoshone, and
Lander are all within Fremont County. The bulk of the
Wind River Indian Reservation is within the county as well. A small part of the
Shoshone National Forest is in Fremont County, north of
South Pass City. The
Wind River Mountains span the SW county borders.
Boysen State Park is located directly east of the
Boysen Reservoir and SE of the
Wind River Canyon in the northern part of the county.
Sinks Canyon State Park is located south of
Lander via Hwy 131 east of the
Shoshone National Forest.
Dubois is located in the NW section of the county.
The county seat of Fremont County, Wyoming, is Lander. The county population on July 1, 1999, was 36,191, an increase of 2,529 over the 1990 census.
