In 1929, Quinnipiac, originally known as the Connecticut College of Commerce, was founded in
New Haven as a small business college awarding associate degrees. Upon its name change in 1951 to Quinnipiac College, a name commemorating early Indian settlers around the New Haven harbor area, Quinnipiac began offering the bachelor's degree, In 1966, the College relocated to Hamden and expanded its offerings to master's degrees. In 2000, Quinnipiac College changed its name to Quinnipiac University.
The 200-acre campus is in a suburban setting 10 miles north of New Haven and 35 miles south of Hartford.
Fraternities, sororities and over 65 clubs and organizations are also on campus. Tours are available through the admissions office.
