Douai's main museum, the Musee de la Chartreuse is located in a former 16th-18th century Carthusian monastery and is made up of Fine Art, Archeological and Natural History sections. The Art section includes works by Flemish painters such as Rubens and Jordaens as well as paintings by Impressionists including Renoir, Sisley and Pissaro. The Archaeology and Natural History section includes exhibits of artifacts found in the region dating from 250,000 BC. Gallo Roman History is also on display with exhibits from Bruay and Lewarde. Closed Tuesdays.
