Fort Mountain State Park |
Fort Mountain derives it's name from an ancient 855 foot long rock wall which stands on the highest point of the mountain. The mysterious wall is said to have been built by Indians as a fortification against other more hostile Indians or possibly for ancient ceremonies. Within the Chattahoochee National Forest, close to the Cohutta Wilderness area, this park offers a variety of outdoor activities for all to enjoy.
Over 80 campsites are available, including some cottages. Fourteen miles of hiking trails, 30 miles of mountain bike trails, and 37 miles of horse trails are available. Lake and swimming beach also featured.
