Lincoln's New Salem State Park proudly preserves one of the most historic villages in the Americas where
Abraham Lincoln once lived. This 19th Century community is accurately restored and adapted to the lifestyles of the 1830's.
Today, you can touch the history and feel the emotion of yesterday as you walk through the winding paths of the village. Experience the sights and sounds of blacksmiths banging away on their anvils, bakers with the mouth-watering smell of fresh bread baking and candlemakers plying their trade.
The nationally acclaimed repertory theater, "Theatre In The Park", presents nightly live performances. Plays involving the life of Abraham Lincoln are performed Tuesday through Sunday. There is a nominal admission charge for adults, children and groups.
The 200-site campgrounds are open March 15th to December 15th and have places for tents and camp trailers. The park is located 2 miles south of Petersburg on Rt. 97 northwest of Springfield in Menard County.
