Oblong is a rural community located in southeastern Illinois in western
Crawford County northeast of
Mt. Vernon between
Newton and
Robinson along Highway 33 about 3 miles east of the North Fork of the
Embarras River and 20 miles west of the
Wabash River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 1,699, an increase of 83 since 1990.
