Robinson is located in southeastern Illinois in Crawford County
(of which it is the county seat) southeast of Mattoon
along Highway 33 about 10 miles west of the Wabash River
. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 6,394, a decrease of 346 since 1990.
Golfers will want to challenge Quail Creek Country Club. The course at one time was a regular stop on the PGA tour (from 1966 to 1974) and Robinson has the distiction of being the smallest town ever to host such an event. Golf Hall-of-Famer Lee Trevino once remarked "I have played all over the world and Quail Creek is one of the most enjoyable courses I have ever played."
The town is home to Lincoln Trail College, a community college serving the area's continuing education needs.
