Patterson is located in St. Mary Parish within the Cajun Country Region, southeast of Lafayette between New Iberia and Morgan City along Highway 182 near the Atchafalaya River, Franklin, Duck Lake, Flat Lake and the Intercoastal Waterway. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 5,373, an increase of 207 since 1990.
