Built in 1858, the 17-room brick Italianate-style structure is one of only a few remaining 19th-century homes that has remained intact inside and out; the original furnishings and personal belongings of three generations are displayed as they were le ft when the house was sealed in 1925.
Now serving as a museum, the house and its contents reflect the eccentric and rich lifestyle of its Victorian sea captain builder and owner, and the families' involvement in the shipping, education, medicine , and seafaring trades. Guided tours are offered Tuesday-Saturday; museum open to the public June through Columbus Day.
